Garden
The Herdade dos Alfanges has a 650 sqm formal walled garden organised in a semicircle around the main house.  The walls are made from local lime stone which shelter the garden without impeding the views over the estate.  There is a large decked area outside the kitchen for dinning al fresco with an enormous electric awning that can be extended or retracted at the push of a button.

The garden has paths connecting the various areas of interest around the garden.  The internal courtyard connects to the pool, the decking and the kitchen garden.  The paths are made from reclaimed granite that was originally used as paving in front of the 16th century castle in Alvito, the local town.  There are three exits that allow you to go into the fields, one by the decking, one from the pool and another from the kitchen garden.  The main flowers grown in the formal garden are roses, whilst the kitchen garden provides for sunflowers and other perennials to decorate the house.  There is plenty of  lawn to relax on, a raised area with a swing and arches all around the garden with wild roses, honey suckle and wisterias.
